Summary:

Our client is a major non-profit organization with one of the largest and most significant art collections in the United States who is looking to add a Director of Accounting to the team. The Director of Accounting will responsible for developing and managing an experienced accounting team, create strategic initiatives and business plans with the CEO, and manage all investment portfolios and transactions.

The Director of Accounting must have 10+ years of accounting experience

Director of Accounting Requirements:

  • Specialized knowledge in non-profit accounting highly preferred
  • 10+ years of accounting experience; (5 years in management, 3 in non-profit, 3 in public) or (10 years private accounting)
  • Bachelors in a related field along with a CPA
  • Prior experience as an auditor or working with auditing teams
  • Ability to multi task and manage numerous deadlines
  • Strong and demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills
  • Ability to manage an experienced team and execute new strategies
  • Self-starter, attention to detail, flexibility
  • Proficient in latest version of Office 365, including SharePoint, Word, Power Point, Outlook, and Excel

Director of Accounting Description:

  • Recruit, develop and successfully manage the accounting team to achieve the strategic objectives and the present and future needs of the department
  • Ensure proper accounting treatment for financial activity, in accordance with GAAP, IRS, DOL, and other oversight agencies
  • Ensure timely financial reporting to the CFO, Board and department/division heads on a monthly and annual basis
  • Ensure the directives outlined by the Investment Committee regarding the Endowment and Pension Investment portfolios are followed accurately and timely. Ensure all investment transactions are properly recorded and classified on financial statements, manage the application and funding process for new investments and ensure all capital calls are made in a timely manner
  • Manage the annual budget process and ongoing review of actual results to budget
  • Work with auditors to support the audit of financial statements, defined benefit plan and 401(k) Plan
  • Manage the timely preparation of the 990 Tax return
  • Troubleshoot and act as liaison with other departments and personnel
  • Assisting the CFO in the development of business plans, forecasts, and reports to the Board and supporting committees
