Financial Controller

Troy, MI

Summary:

Our client is looking for a Financial Controller to leverage financial modeling, budget analysis, and experience to manage the financial operations of the company. As the Financial Controller, you will be responsible for managing the approval process with the client on the budget and maintaining adherence to that budget.

The Financial Controller must have at least 5 years of experience with financial forecasting, modeling, and variance analysis.

Financial Controller Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics; MBA, MS Finance, or MS Accounting (preferred)
  • Attained CPA or CFA certification (preferred)
  • Ability to grasp the “big picture” and underlying strategic issues
  • Ability to develop solutions to complex problems
  • Ability to bring fresh perspective to challenges and ability to effectively communicate advantages to such perspectives/ideas
  • Knowledge of corporate finance principles including ability to perform balance sheet analysis, net income statement analysis, cash flow statement analysis, capital structure analysis, etc.
  • Familiarity with basic accounting principles
  • Critical thinking and inquisitive mind
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong modeling and financial valuation skills
  • Can provide accurate, timely and reliable reporting and controls
  • Ability to ask critical questions from the client and gather data that effectively addresses the business problem
  • Ability to coordinate and manage tasks within a broader project
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently with minimal guidance/supervision
  • Proactively works to resolve issues and move project tasks forward
  • Ability to structure presentations in straightforward, efficient manner
  • Effective business writer; able to provide a short synopsis and recommendation

Financial Controller Description:

  • Lead and coordinate business activity required to complete budget/operating plan activity
  • Establish and maintain P&L, GL, and PO structure and processes
  • Lead financial activity for budget/Operating Plan and monthly management reports
  • Gather and prepare variances of monthly results against plans and forecasts and analyze current trends against future forecasts/targets
  • Financial forecasting and modeling
  • Manage invoicing and payroll operations
  • Establish effective documentation and organizational processes
  • Lead internal management reporting
  • Interpret and manage activity to support reporting by industry and other segmented approaches
  • Interpret business drivers and impact on results
  • Conduct financial analysis and prepare detailed financial reports and statements
  • Support and prepare monthly performance reporting, charts, graphs, and metrics as identified
  • Provide divisional support with month-end, forecast, and budget reporting
  • Provide controllership functions in order to ensure finances are managed according to legislation, policies, procedures, and generally accepted accounting principles
  • Maintain strong communication between client and internal team
