Network Operations Center Manager
Troy, MI

Summary:

Our client is a growing, innovative player in the telecommunications industry who is looking to add an experienced and dynamic Network Operations Center Manager. The Network Operations Center Manager will oversee the NOC operations, escalations, and drive team performance. They will focus on continuous improvement and collaborate with the engineering, provisioning, and field operations on development, design, and implementation of new services.

The Network Operations Center Manager must have seven years’ experience in a technical role within the telecommunications industry.

Network Operations Center Manager Requirements:

  • Education
    • Bachelor’s degree in CIS, MIS, or related field (combination of education and experience will be considered)
    • Master’s degree preferred
    • CCNA, CCNP, or other Cisco certification preferred
  • Experience
    • 7 – 10 years of network operations center experience with 2+ years of supervisory/management experience
    • Advanced VoIP experience preferred
    • Advanced Cisco routers and switches experience (Scripting and automation experience preferred)
  • Knowledge
    • Wiring knowledge of copper and fiber facilities including T1 and POTS, RJ-11/45 jacks, punch-down blocks, and other wiring and fiber optic components
    • Expert understanding of complex telephony and IP concepts
    • Advanced knowledge of LAN/WAN technologies
    • Advanced knowledge of PPP, Frame Relay, ISDN, MPLS, and SIP
    • Advanced understanding of TCP/IP and the OSI model
    • Intermediate computer knowledge, including Microsoft Office and Unix/Linux
    • Knowledge of management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, and leadership techniques

  • Abilities

    • Problem sensitivity – ability to tell when something is wrong or likely to go wrong and reactive proactively
    • Pattern detection – ability to recognize patterns in order to quickly isolate trouble

Network Operations Center Manager Description:

  • Directly manage a network operations center and staff (including on-call support) responsible for monitoring core network elements, network performance, and facilities for service issues
  • Oversee the day-to-day NOC operations, escalations, ticketing and communications with all customers; provide outage notifications and update outage reports
  • Drive team performance and accomplish departmental goals by coordinating work, establishing KPI’s, ensuring adequate training, enforcing productivity standards, and ensuring adherence to  systems, policies, procedures and service level agreements
  • Focus on continuous improvement by identifying and evaluating trends and options, defining objectives and evaluating outcomes; identifying and documenting root cause for priority issues; ensuring that systematic issues have appropriate resolution paths
  • Proactively monitor the performance of infrastructure equipment; review and respond to all alerts provided by the monitoring system to prevent and resolve any potential outage in the most expeditious timeframe possible
  • Report directly to senior leadership on overall NOC performance; identify areas for process and efficiency improvement and make recommendations for prioritized enhancements and oversee implementation
  • Collaborate with engineering, provisioning, and field operations on development, design, and implementation of new services
  • Ensure network equipment is running on the latest extended maintenance release software to ensure network stability; manage the network inventory system
  • Negotiate purchase agreements with hardware and service vendors and manage vendor relations with manufacturers for hardware support
  • Develop and maintain business relationships with key customers
  • Update and maintain documentation associated with processes and procedures (i.e., SOP)
