Plastic Injection / Product Engineer
Greater Dayton Area, OH

Our client is a custom plastic and rubber profile extrusion company who is looking to add an experienced and professional Plastic Injection / Product Engineer to their team. The Plastic Injection / Product Engineer for the design, development, and implementation of injection molds in a manufacturing setting. They will also develop processes by designing and/or performing experimental testing, data analysis, preparation of reports, and providing recommendations.

Plastic Injection / Product Engineer must have 10+ years of experience in Injection Molding and/or ADAS equipment

Plastic Injection / Product Engineer Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in engineering or a related major scientific discipline from an accredited college or university; and/or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience
  • Extensive experience in project management
  • Knowledge and experience in plastics injection part design, molding processes, tools and materials
  • Knowledge and experience in statistical analysis and statistical process control
  • Experience leading continuous improvement efforts to improve efficiencies and costs
  • Proficient in 2D and 3D computer aided design and drafting (CADD) utilizing various modeling software tools (i.e. Inventor, SolidWorks, AutoCAD)
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills including the ability to listen attentively and to communicate information clearly and effectively
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and professionalism at all times
  • Experience and demonstrated skills/knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook) ERP Systems (IQMS a plus), and accurate data entry
  • A demonstrated ability to work independently or as part of a team to complete projects within required timeframes
  • Intimate knowledge of mold design and mold making
  • Proven hands on leadership, and the ability to motivate and inspire employees and customers
  • Travel as required to support the operations, sales & marketing teams.
  • Overnight travel up to 25%  
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
  • Ability to obtain a valid passport required

Plastic Injection / Product Engineer Description:

  • Analyzes, designs, develops solutions to engineering challenges associated with Injection Molded plastic parts
  • Responsible for the delivery of engineering documents, conduct engineering reviews and designs including implementation oversight of capital equipment, molds and tooling, material selection and process development
  • Provides advanced level plastic injection molding process troubleshooting support and data analysis, identifies areas for improvement and participates in or leads continuous improvement activities to reduce variability and improve production efficiencies
  • Diagnoses tooling issues on the bench and performs assembly/disassembly of tooling as required
  • Conducts required on machine DOE’s and on machine trials and experiments in a hands-on manner
  • Designs new parts, as well as reverse engineers existing products for manufacture
  • Leads multiple capital projects in the area of plastic injection molding
  • Manages the day-to-day operational and tactical aspects
  • Provides leadership and collaboration within a cross functional team during the execution of projects
  • Manages scope and mitigates risk across projects
  • Provides technical guidance on the development and commissioning of robust controlled plastics injection molding systems for manufacturing applications
  • Develop and maintain process documentation ensuring that processes and procedures are clearly stated and understandable for all employees
  • Provide technical support/solutions to manufacturing processes, improve yield and throughput, drive cost reduction activities and improve on part quality
  • Establishes material and machinery standards for processes and products
  • Leads process improvement using modern manufacturing tools and methods
  • Leads and supports molding process validations
  • Applies statistical analysis techniques to quantify current process capabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to start-up, operate and shut down process related equipment
  • Must be able to work independently on new process development as well as troubleshooting current production issues
  • Work with equipment and material vendors to resolve machine and material issues
  • Monitor and report issues with injection molds, make recommendations for refurbishment based on production factors such as cycles, process capability and tooling history
  • Interact with customers to resolve issues and provide new project updates
  • Implement technical solutions including statistical methodology to meet customer cost, quality, and delivery expectations
  • Trains and mentors molding process technicians, plant engineers and key operations personnel to develop and enhance process knowledge and skills
  • Has experience working within the guidance of ISO-9001 Quality Systems requirements for design and manufacture
  • Facilitate and support facility and manufacturing safety, environmental, and ergonomics efforts
  • Participate in the monthly Operations Review meetings and other department meetings as required
  • Effectively achieves results that meet business and individual objectives
  • Performs other job-related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time
  • Any improvements that support the wellbeing and advancement of Creative, its employees and the community
  • Will be resident expert for this new product, will perform business studies/create case studies to determine technical requirements deeded to get product into production (suppliers, materials, machines, etc.)
