Senior Corporate Controller
Metro Detroit, MI

Summary:
Our client is a growing fuel distribution company that seeks a dynamic, well-organized Senior Corporate Controller. As a Senior Director on the Finance & Accounting Leadership Team, you will be responsible for the following:

Senior Controller Requirements:
  • At least 5 years of recent, successful senior level experience (Controller, Director of Accounting/Finance, or similar experience) 
  • At least 8 - 10 years of successful career progression and accomplishments across (1) operational improvement, (2) management & leadership, (3) accounting, and (4) financial integrity
  • Detail-oriented mindset, ability to multi-task, prioritize objectives and deliver results
  • Energetic, collaborative, and inspirational leadership style
  • Successful track record of individual/team development, training, and change management
  • Organizational skills, commitment and follow through of execution/implementation
  • Expert written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with an ERP and/or large project software implementation – highly preferred
  • Previous experience with private equity a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or similar, relevant field

Senior Controller Description:
  • Ensure completeness and timeliness of routine monthly close, reconciliations and ledgers
  • Ensure proper controls are in place and maintained throughout finance, core systems and working capital areas to support financial integrity
  • Maintain strong relations with internal customers, peers, executive management and external stakeholders (vendors, customers, auditors, etc.)
  • Strive for continuous personal and team leadership development with an emphasis on core values, integrity and transparent communication
  • Continuous improvement mentality with high degree of motivation, self-starter, purpose driven and act as an agent of change
  • Monitor the preparation of financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, annual budgets, and reports required by regulatory agencies
  • Develop guidelines and procedures for internal control policies, activities such as budget administration, cash management, inventory management, asset management, transaction controls, timely payment, separation of duty and accurate accounting
  • Lead and manage team performing accounting functions 
  • Identify key metrics to measure and evaluate the financial/accounting processes and provide profitability assistance to other areas of the business
  • Demonstrate the organization’s values by delivering exemplary internal & external customer service
  • Provide development opportunities to improve the capabilities of your team
  • Lead personnel lifecycles including recruitment, retention and succession planning efforts
  • Deliver top-down leadership training
  • Develop and manage key metrics to support your team
  • Steward a safe work environment for your team
  • Demonstrate daily characteristics such as optimism, pride of job & company, showing team their value to the organization
  • Creating the right environment for the team to thrive and develop
  • Drive the company’s strategic vision and 5-year plan; prepare and deliver the accounting road map that aligns short term goals with the organization’s strategic plan
  • Communicate short-term and long-term objectives and actions throughout the organization 
  • Analyze the financial performance of past, present, and expected operations to identify development opportunities and areas where improvement is needed
  • Provide direction and assistance to other organizational units regarding accounting and budgeting policies and procedures and efficient control and utilization of financial resources
  • Steward collaboration with peers on the F&A Leadership Team to ensure that departments are working together efficiently and effectively
