Electrical Engineer
Southfield, MI

Our client is one of the world’s leading automated plant and mechanical engineering firm looking at add an Electrical Engineer to join their Clean Technology Systems division. The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for all phases of Electrical Engineering and design for Environmental Control Systems Projects. The main function of the position is to detail and design electrical (hardware and software) for industrial control systems. They will split their time 50/50 between hardware and software.

Electrical Engineer must have 5+ years of relevant experience

Electrical Engineer Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent work experience
  • 5 years of electrical engineering experience
  • Able to interpret NEC local codes
  • Experience and full capabilities with Allen Bradley control hardware and software SLC, PLC', ControlLogix, CompactLogix, Ethernet, Controlnet and Devicenet is a must
  • Full Capabilities with Siemens control hardware and software a plus
  • Experience with Mitsubishi control hardware and software
  • Good analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Experienced in selection and troubleshooting of instrumentation and process control
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio
  • Good time management skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Good verbal communication skills
  • Good technical writing skills
  • Able to work well independently and in a team environment
  • Able to lead small groups in a project
  • Able to technically define problems and propose solutions
  • Adaptable to change in a learning environment
  • Willing and able to work overtime, weekends, and holidays when necessary

Electrical Engineer Description:

  • Individual handles 2-5 projects at a time; consisting of 3 types of projects, 10% - OEM projects (6 months or longer and/or 2 years long that include large ECP) and 90% - After Market Service (AMS) can last 1-4 weeks
  • Design and detail industrial control systems
  • Generate design drawings, bill of equipment
  • Interpret mechanical drawings
  • Selection of purchased equipment
  • Design & detail industrial control software
  • Proficient with PLC controller code
  • Proficient with HMI applications
  • Work in SAP system to define, order and track parts
  • Attend and/or conduct design reviews
  • Develop system Sequences of Operation
  • Maintain transmittal records and document control
  • Maintain project schedules
  • Assist in the development of subcontract bid package documentation
  • Support on-site installation team as required
  • Attend customer meetings to understand project requirements
  • Communicate with project team, customers, and suppliers
  • Understand, diagnose, and solve real or potential design problems
  • Commission installed designs
  • Troubleshoot electrical installation, both hardware and software
  • Maintain and update checkout documentation
  • Work with Mechanical Engineering to develop systems P&ID drawings
  • Write project electrical installation scopes of work
  • Review control panel fabrication when completed and work with shop personnel on control panel checkout and initial set-up in the shop
  • Maintain project budget for electrical project equipment
  • Maintain project budget engineering hours
  • Travel approximately 15%
