Functional Safety Engineer 
Wyoming, Minnesota


Our client a global powersports leader that has been fueling the passion of riders, workers and outdoor enthusiasts for more than 60 years. They are looking to add an experienced and professional Functional Safety Engineer to their team. The Functional Safety Engineer will provide technical expertise in assessing and addressing hazards and risks  while leading and driving a Functional Safety standardization in an undeveloped industry

The Functional Safety Engineer must have at least five years of Functional Safety experience

Job Title Requirements:

  • Required - Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering
  • 8+ years’ experience in electrical/software systems architecture design/development
  • Experience in Product Safety Engineering highly regarded
  • Knowledge of vehicle electrical systems and vehicle controls functions - automotive, motorcycle, off-road, industrial, etc.
  • Well versed in safety standards related to development of electrical/software systems (e.g. IEC-61508, ISO-26262, other)
  • Technical in nature
  • Training and experience in facilitating and participating system hazard and risk analysis and failure mode effects reviews
  • Ability to effectively communicate, influence, and work cross functionally at all levels of an organization
  • Forward-looking; challenges the status quo
  • Strong data mining and data analysis skillset
  • Ability to write clear and precise technical reports and presentations
  • Ability to read and understand industry standards and technical documentation

 Job Title Description:

  • Provides technical expertise in assessing and addressing hazards and risks in the following vehicle areas: battery and energy storage, electrical power distribution, and vehicle controls including the functional safety of electronics hardware, software, and systems/subsystems. This individual will lead and drive a Functional Safety standardization in an undeveloped industry.
  • Works closely with the engineering teams in a matrix organization to assess hazards and risks and assists in the development of potential solutions in the technical areas listed above for all product lines
  • Coordinates, reviews, interprets, and communicates assessments completed by 3rd party affiliates
  • Ensures hazard and risk approach, assessment, and mitigation is consistent among product groups
  • Attends and participates in safety-critical design reviews
  • Leads FMEA reviews
  • Leads process improvements for hazards and risks analysis and documentation
  • Engages cross-functional technical teams to ensure improvements are developed for effectivity while maximizing speed and agility
  • Trains technical teams on process utilization and documentation standards
  • Benchmarks industry on hazards and risk assessment and mitigation
