Sr. Cost Analyst
Knoxville, TN


Our client designs and manufacturers water purification systems and is located in Knoxville, TN. They are looking to add an experienced Sr. Cost Analyst to their team who will be responsible for standard product costing, variance calculations, and inventory accuracy. The Sr. Cost Analyst will work with the CFO and Controller to complete special projects.

Sr. Cost Analyst must have 2-3 years of manufacturing experience

Sr. Cost Analyst Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance (Preferred)
  • At least 5 years activity-based costing experience in a manufacturing environment; working with engineering and operations personnel on development and analysis of cost standards in support of continuous improvement
  • Must possess excellent analytical and communication skills with sound understanding of cost accounting principles and procedures
  • Understanding and working history with full ERP systems
  • Computer literate with strong Excel skills

Sr. Cost Analyst Description:

  • Manage existing activity-based costing system, and expand as needed with acquisitions
  • Coordinate physical inventory counts and cycle counts
  • Work with materials review board on disposition of scrap and obsolete inventory
  • Investigate cycle counting variances and report issues
  • Update standard costs in bills of materials as well as labor and machine routings
  • Review standard and actual costs and explain differences
  • Prepare end-of-month costing journal entries
  • Report on margins by product and division
  • Report production variances and their causes (material, direct labor, overhead)
  • Accumulate and analyze capital requests in support of budgeting and planning process
  • Audit customer product cost quotations for accuracy
  • Analyze and report on the accuracy of shop order reporting
  • Analyze and report on the accuracy of the preventive maintenance system and reporting
  • Assist in annual budgeting by supporting departmental budgeting processes
  • Collaborate with scheduling function in expanding the number of scheduled operations
  • Assist in implementation of ERP platform
  • Manage the fixed asset system including setup, change, and disposal, as well as depreciation books
  • Assist in development of departmental procedures
