Sr. Technical Buyer

Akron, NY

Summary:

My client is an international leading manufacturer of metal forming equipment and related software located in Akron, NY. They are looking to add a Senior Technical Buyer to their team who has a strong technical/engineering knowledge, can interpret blueprints, and brings a hands on approach to problem solving and supplier negotiations. They would even consider someone with a strong technical background and communication skills that wants to learn more of the buying aspects. 

The Sr. Technical Buyer must be able to interpret blueprints (engineering symbols) and have a reasonable understanding of machining.

Sr. Technical Buyer Requirements:

  • Two (2) year Associate degree in Materials Management or Manufacturing Technology preferred 
  • 3-5 years previous industrial MRO buying / planning exp. in a manufacturing environment and/or demonstrated estimating and manufacturing engineering process analysis experience
  • CPIM / APICS certification a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and negotiation skills
  • Able to collaborate and interact with others
  • Demonstrate computer skills (Microsoft Office environment, Word, Excel, e-mail), internal network, and ERP system
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints
  • Work environment will consist of occessional exposure to dust, odor, oil, fumes and noise in a manufacturing environment
  • Must have the aptitude to understand how machines and products work and how it can delay shipping

Sr. Technical Buyer Description:

  • Supports lead time / manufacturing service level requirements
  • Plan purchasing order quantities and supplier inventory level for best total cost
  • Develop alternate sources while reducing overall vendor base
  • Develop, set up and integrate new systems (i.e. VMI, Kan-Ban, automated vouchering, etc.)
  • Maintain supplier relationship to attain service targets, and ensure flexibility and on time delivery
  • Lead others in releasing blanket orders (i.e. electronics, hardware, etc.)
  • Attain total cost reductions as measured vs. standard
